Apple Galette

Now I am not really positive what a Galette is but I made it and it was yummy!  This is the recipe I used, click here.  And this is how it turned out for us.  I was a great recipe to do with kiddos.  Noah helped with:
rolling out the dough
shaking up the sugar, cinnamon and apples in a sealed bowl
arranging the apples onto the crust
folding the crust up and sprinkling with sugar

This turned out delicious, hope you enjoy!

Little Chef: Vegetables

A couple great ways to keep little hands busy in the kitchen, when all they want to do is help.
Shuck the sweet corn
and snap the beans!

We have been visiting the farmers market atleast weekly this summer and are loving all the fresh, local farm foods!

Little Chef: Meatloaf

Easy Meatloaf
1 1/2 lb. ground beef                       salt and pepper
1 egg                                              2 T. brown sugar
1 onion, chopped                            2 T. prepared mustard
1 cup milk                                       1/3 cup ketchup
1 cup breadcrumbs
Preheat oven 350 degrees.
Combine; beef, egg, onion, milk & breadcrumbs.  Season with salt and pepper.  Place in loaf pan.
In seperate bowl, combine brown sugar, mustard, ketchup.  Mix well and pour over meatloaf.
Bake for 1 hour.

Before Noah came to the kitchen I had all the ingredients measured out in the cups.  Noah poured in all the ingredients.  I handled the raw meat and Noah held onto the spoon as we stirred.  He was great help and loves to be cooking with David and me.
Another great thing about Noah helping make dinner is he also ate dinner.  Noah is not a big meat eater but after we complimented him on his meatloaf and talked about everything we put in to make it he had no hesitation, he dug right in!

Cooking With Kids

There are lots of great things to do with kids in the kitchen.  Noah (our 2 year old) has been helping me with this and that in the kitchen.  Here are some things we have been cooking up.

Noah helps tear biscuits (sometimes he will actually use the pizza cutter I give him) for Garlic Monkey Bread.

Helps spread shredded cheeses on pizza and quesadillas.

Layering the ingrediants for lasagna

Putting cupcake liners in the tin.

Helping role out pie crust.

Using cookie cutters for sugar cookies

Stirring juice (we have a quick stir pitcher from Pampered Chef)

Always helpful when it comes to stirring and pouring (usually dry ingrediants but he is getting better at the wet ingrediants not to spill).

Getting plates and silverware to the table.

He is a great taste tester!

Little Chef: Banana Boats!

Ingrediants:

Whole Banana

Mini Marshmellows

Chocolate Chips

This is a camp favorite that I forgot about until the other day when I wanted to share a special dessert with my boys! (plus it is EASY)

Peel the peel off one side of a banana and set the banana in a little foil (it kind of looks like a boat too). Take a spoon and spoon out some banana and fill it in with marshmellows and choc. chips.. Set the banana boat in a heated oven for 5-10 minutes until the marshmellows and choc. chips are all melted and gooey and dig in!

Hope my instructions make sense, ENJOY!
